The Ionian islands
The Ionian archipelago on the northwest coast of Greece consists of several large and hundreds of small islands. The largest ones can be easily reached by air, boat or car. The northern island is Corfu, which is densely populated and a mass tourism destination. The other islands are quieter. Lefkada lies south of Corfu. The other larger islands Ithaca, Kefalonia and Zakynthos are situated to the south of Lefkada.

Lefkada is easily accessible: you can get flights from European cities most of the year. Lefkada, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge, is a 20-minute drive from Preveza airport. From November until late April flights go through Athens. In summer and winter many drive through Italy. Convenient ferries depart from and go a few times a day to Venice and Ancona.

Lefkada is a large island (325 km²) where nature still rules life. The inland is characterized by mountains and valleys, with villages where people still live by the rhythm of seasons and harvests. A feeling of authenticity and tradition prevails. The beaches on Lefkada rank among the most beautiful ones in Greece. The water is clean and crystal clear. Lefkas Town, has a myriad of streets and crowded squares with many tavernas and terraces.

The southern coast is exceptionally beautiful and quiet. It’s a delightful mixture of mountains, bays, beaches and charming villages. The vistas of the neighbouring islands are magnificent.

Climate
The Lefkadian climate is delightful. There is a sufficient amount of rain, especially in the winter, spring and autumn, to keep the island looking lush and green. The summers are warm . In the afternoon there is a refreshing breeze from the sea. The most attractive months are May, June, July, September and October.

The summer temperature in July and August is mostly around 35˚C. In June and September, temperatures are normally 25 to 30˚C. Temperatures in May and October tend to be around 25˚C. At the end of October, the sea water is still pleasantly warm and invites swimming. In April and November, daytime temperatures often reach 20˚C and higher. Even December can have quite a few sunny days with a daytime temperature of 15 to 20˚C.
