Our family: What motivates us

We are a Dutch family with a passion for beauty. We love the splendour of unspoilt nature, authenticity and tranquillity, which are becoming scarce in the world today. Travels, valuable experiences and reflection have brought us to the Greek Ionian islands. The Ionian islands are green year round because of a fair amount of rain in the autumn, winter and spring. Our choice fell on the magnificent, tranquil south coast of the island of Lefkas. Here we discovered what we were looking for. The climate is mild and pleasantly warm in the summer. The sea is a deep sapphire blue.

In 2005, we sold our historic country estate near Amsterdam to the Foundation for the Conservation of Dutch Cultural Heritage. The estate is a well-known National Trust property with some 10 hectares of natural beauty, consisting of landscaped parks and gardens, a manor house and other buildings and barns. Over the years, we have taken great care in restoring the estate with its 1,300 m² of living space, true to its original design and spirit. The interior comprised contemporary furniture, beautiful antiques and original works of art. In the process, we developed a good feeling for and knowledge of how to restore, design, build and furnish property in a responsible and refined way.

House Of The Sea: Why it is a personal home

In 2005 and 2006 we purchased some 25,000 m² of prime property on the south coast of Lefkas to create our own paradise to share with our guests: House Of The Sea, set in breathtaking scenery with age-old olive trees and a view of the deep blue sea. The heart of House Of The Sea is Being & Living and stems from a penchant for architecture, beautiful nature and intense joy – aspects that have been inspirational motivations throughout our lives. What we intend to do is to create something beautiful in a lovely, quiet setting to share with the guests of House Of The Sea.

The Greek competent architect plays an active role during the construction phase and monitors the entire building process. However, we determine precisely what is built and how. This also applies to interior design details with regard to fine workmanship, choice of materials, colour schemes and furnishings. The results are unique, highly personal houses of an exceptionally high standard and beauty, yet with a traditional feeling.
